Rugby: Dartmouth 38, UVM 5

The Dartmouth Rugby Football Club opened its Spring season with a 38-5 trouncing of the University of Vermont on Memorial Field, in Hanover.

The match saw the A-side debuts of Rafe Whalen and Henry Hawkins, freshmen prop and flanker, respectively. An early lead allowed the DRFC to comfortably provide other less-experienced with playing time, and Dartmouth’s reserve talent managed to notch a try and a conversion kick for extra points against a physical UVM side.

UVM Head Coach Charlie Bates said of the match, “It’s always tough to compete with other teams on the national stage, coming out of New England as we both do,” meaning the rain and muck which usually characterize Spring rugby in the Northeast.

Dartmouth will next face the University of Delaware and Rutgers University in back-to-back matches this weekend. The first, at Delaware, kicks off at 1:00 PM on Saturday.

  1. Attention-grabbing approach in this article however I do not fall in with in all you mean but on the whole very well described. Included you to my favorites and tweeted to my 2400 subscribers.
